Facebook Reveals Secret Chat Bots For Messenger

Facebook recently released a secret software development kit to a few developers to allow them to build chat bots for the Facebook Messenger app, according to TechCrunch.

The idea is that users will be able to send text messages to directly to the bots and the bots will automatically respond with information, whether that may be images, location services, product prices, movie times, Buy buttons and more. It will also be able to connect to Messenger’s payment button so users could make purchases via bots.

The goal is to give Messenger more functions so that it is the go-to app for users when it comes to texting. It’s not only convenient for the user but it relieves businesses of having to check messengers or create their own app to connect with their audience.

In December, Facebook debuted how bots on Messenger could work with its Uber integration. When you tap the Transportation button or an address and select Uber, you can start a chat thread with the car service. An interactive panel in the chat lets you set your pickup point, destination and payment option. Then as the driver approaches, you receive updates in the thread with options to view a map or call the driver.

While these updates are meant to make Facebook the dominant player in the messaging marketing, which is filling up with apps such as WhatsApp and SnapChat, they could become a big benefit to businesses.

Imagine any small business having the sophisticated ability to have automatic responses to customer requests, needs and questions through Facebook Messenger. Whether it’s a dry cleaner, sending automatic updates on when a user’s clothes are finished or a user being able to order a pizza from the local pizzeria, the opportunity is big for small businesses.
