How To Keep Your SEO Up To Date

To many business owners SEO is one of those technical terms that they know is important but aren’t sure how to manage it or how much time to invest in it. Often times, business owners will tell their web designers to make sure the website is SEO friendly and then forget about it. But SEO is something you need to be paying attention on a consistent basis.

Did you know that Google updates its search algorithms 500 to 600 times annually? (source) And in this day and age, Google rules so if it is constantly updating its algorithms, then you need to be constantly managing your SEO.

Almost everything starts with a Google search. Whether you are looking for a restaurant to eat at on Friday night, someone to fix your washing machine or where to buy your next car, you are Googling something. No one is looking in a phone book, on a map or on the street for the things they need. They are searching online and SEO is the key to help you be found online. Once you are found online, more people will find you in your brick and mortar store and which helps you make more sales and more repeat customers.

Here are three easy ways to keep your SEO up to date:

  1. Refresh your content.

Google has made it clear that content is key when it comes to their algorithms and that trend is not going to change anytime soon. While you don’t have to keep a blog or constantly redo your website, it’s important to add to and edit your website to keep content new and refreshing. There are many ways to do this, such as adding new photos, posting sale items or new specials.

  1. Stay up to date with your social media accounts.

Google has made it clear that having a huge following on social media does not directly influence SEO but social media is an excellent way to spread links of your website which can help SEO. Also social media can help drive more traffic to your website and more traffic always helps improve your SEO.

  1. Mobile matters

Google has made having a mobile optimized experience important because it made it a key ranking factor for searches on mobile devices by marking websites as “mobile friendly” in mobile searches. And as we said in our last post, there are a lot of mobile searches occurring in the world. If you’re not mobile optimized, check out our last blog about why it’s so important.

And never forget the technical aspects of SEO. There are hundreds of page elements that Google uses as a ranking factor, such as meta tags, H1 tags and more so it never hurts to have an expert look at your backend SEO just to make sure everything is in shape. The technical aspects will always matter for SEO so make sure you have it done properly!
